The services are designed to address the challenges organizers are facing with increasing frequency: higher production costs, greater insurance and liability exposure, and artist fees that have outpaced growth in ticket revenue — pressures that have forced some festivals to downsize and others to cancel or cease operations after only a few years.

Rather than open-ended consulting engagements, Art of Impact has organized its expertise into 20 clearly defined services, each with set deliverables, outcomes, timelines and pricing. Clients can engage a single offering or combine several across the development journey, spanning feasibility, branding, budgeting, staffing, sponsorship, producing, immersive experiences, growth strategy, AI and technology.

The services are built for festival founders and producers, for cities and tourism organizations pursuing signature destination festivals, for brands developing festivals of their own, and for nonprofits building fundraising festivals.

These services are executed by a team with experience across more than 40 festivals in the U.S. and internationally, spanning music, literary, culinary, spirits and sports festivals, as well as brand-owned festivals.

That momentum is evident in the company’s recent calendar. Over a three-week stretch this summer, Art of Impact designed and delivered the World of Whiskey experience at Hoochenanny in Fairport, New York; helped launch The Festival, an inaugural Broadway music festival in Kingston, New York; and debuted the Spirits of Bluegrass experience at Earl Scruggs Music Festival in Mill Spring, North Carolina.

Art of Impact was founded in 2021 by McKnight, who brings 25 years of festival experience. He founded the Forecastle Festival in Louisville and over two decades grew it from a small community gathering into an internationally recognized music, art and activism® festival drawing more than 70,000 attendees from 49 states and six countries. Rolling Stone named Forecastle one of the coolest festivals in America, Garden & Gun called it the “Greatest Show for Earth,” and it earned a Pollstar nomination for Music Festival of the Year.

“I took Forecastle from idea to acquisition and learned most of it the hard way. Like most festival founders, we learned through trial and error and figured things out as we went,” said JK McKnight, founder of Art of Impact. “Art of Impact equips the next generation of founders with the tools and resources I wish I had back then. We’ve taken those hard-earned lessons and turned them into 20 clearly defined products and services, giving founders and producers access to proven festival-development expertise at every stage of the journey.”

McKnight’s broader experience includes serving as a manager at AC Entertainment on events including Bonnaroo, High Water and Big Ears, and securing more than 400 brand partnerships. He also founded the Forecastle Foundation, which channeled festival proceeds into conservation work.

Individual festival engagements demonstrate the breadth of Art of Impact’s work. It designed and co-produced the inaugural Hoochenanny in 2023, then returned as experience producer and sponsorship sales partner for the World of Whiskey, an immersive experience that created a new sponsorship category for the festival. Attendance has grown from 1,200 in 2023 to more than 8,000 in 2025 and 16,000 in 2026.

“Art of Impact designed, packaged, and managed our 14,000-square-foot World of Whiskey experience, securing over 40 premium spirits partners. It generated thousands of paid ticket upgrades and became one of the festival’s true highlights and key differentiators,” said Sean McCarthy, co-owner of the Hoochenanny Festival. “It created a new revenue stream and a signature destination our fans and partner brands will come back for.”

At Miami Book Fair, the nation’s largest and longest-running annual literary festival, Art of Impact helped position the event for future growth. Following stakeholder interviews and a thorough on-site A-to-Z diagnostic, the agency delivered a growth and development strategy designed to broaden the audience while preserving the loyalty of its longtime base.

For The Humana Foundation, Art of Impact helped build Pickley’all from the ground up, developing the festival’s brand identity and financial model before continuing as lead consultant through development. Anchored by an Association of Pickleball Players professional tournament, the free, all-ages Louisville festival combines professional pickleball with music, wellness and community programming and is expected to draw tens of thousands of participants and fans when it runs next month.

McKnight sees the 20-service portfolio as the foundation for Art of Impact’s next chapter, from expanding its national and international client work to developing resources for the founders coming up behind him.

“Our goal is to give founders the tools to survive the growing pressures of this industry and emerge stronger,” McKnight said. “If we can shorten their path to sustainability, reduce risk and help festivals become what their founders envisioned, we have succeeded.”
